It was remarkable and inspiring to sit in a room with this cross section of our Pittsburgh Jewish communal leadership.
Tuesday night begins the holiday of Shavuot, commemorating the receiving of the Torah at Sinai. There is a tradition of holding a Tikkun Leil Shavuot, a night long Torah study session. We are lucky to have a true “communal” Tikkun Leil Shavuot here. Beginning at 10:00 p.m. at the JCC in Squirrel Hill, Rabbis and teachers from throughout the community and from all religious denominations will teach classes all over the facility. Last year’s program attracted approximately 500 people (remarkable for a 10:00 p.m. program)! The Tikkun, coordinated by the Agency for Jewish Learning with cooperation and support from the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Federation, is so unique and special.
It is another example of our community coming together.
Shabbat Shalom and an early Chag Shavuot Sameach.
P.S. Happy Mother’s Day to all our incredible mothers.
Jeff Finkelstein, President/CEO
Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh
