Shabbat Shalom - Friday, September 14, 2012

The program is centered around a model of facilitation called "Open Space".  In it each participant is given the opportunity to present a topic to discuss.  All the topics are put on a wall, rooms assigned and you choose a discussion to join.  If you find the discussion to not be what you wanted, you just get up and walk out.  It was fascinating to be a participant in such a process.  You see, most of our days at the Federation, we have specific tasks to get done.  We are very goal oriented and we are always striving to achieve what we set out to accomplish.  Very rarely do we have a 48 hour period to dive deep into major issues.  I was very lucky to receive this gift.  I was lucky to be able to meet some fascinating people.  I was lucky to have this chance right before Rosh Hashana to be able to struggle with some of the macro and micro challenges in the Jewish world.

There is lots more I can write about that took place this past week including the International Lion of Judah Conference in New York City and a wonderful Centennial Mega Mission Reunion featuring the premier of our mission video.  Most importantly, I want to take this opportunity to wish each of you a Happy, Healthy, Sweet and Prosperous New Year.  Let’s continue to work together in making Pittsburgh a thriving, vibrant and engaged Jewish community in the year to come.

Shabbat Shalom.

Jeff Finkelstein, President/CEO
