Shabbat Shalom, Friday February 17, 2012

One of the issues in our modern Jewish world, which Ron Brauner discussed, is that so many are trying to figure out the relevance of Judaism on their lives.  This week’s parsha can be, for many, one of the guiding forces.  It contains a plethora of laws (what do you do if two people are fighting and one kills the other, what do you do if an ox gores another’s animal) and these laws are later updated, revised and interpreted in the Mishna, Talmud and other Rabbinic and post Rabbinic texts.  Many of these laws have led to our sense of morality today.  I know many Jewish business people who find great guidance and inspiration in these teachings.

For those of you who think this may be an area of interest, I encourage you to find a place for adult learning.  And whatever you do, keep your ox tied up in your backyard!

Shabbat Shalom.

P.S.  While I put this as P.S., it truly is important.  Our Jewish Federation Annual Community Campaign has now raised $8.2 Million.  We are pushing ahead at great speed.  Please join us this Sunday or next Sunday to make phone calls to our fellow community members.  Details are here.  Together, we can achieve our campaign goal of $13 Million and make a tremendous difference in our community.
