Shabbat Shalom, Friday June 1, 2012

On Wednesday, the Federation held its annual Pacesetter's Event for donors of $1,000 and over to the campaign.  With over 350 in attendance, we had a fun night of laughing to jokes by a comedian and celebrating the contributions of both the Guttman Family and Richard Kann to our community.  Thank you to all the donors who make our fundraising successes a reality.

The holiday of Shavuot is also called Zman Matan Torateinu, or literally, the “Time of the Giving of the Torah”.  It is not called the time of "receiving" the Torah.  The Rabbi at my synagogue spoke about the detail of this wording in regard to the holiday of Shavuot and in regard to us as Jews.  It got me thinking about the community.

Our community has so much to offer.  Synagogues, the Federation and its agencies have religious services, schooling, adult education, recreational activities, Jewish camping, day school education, youth activities, adult education, social services, care for the elderly, opportunities to volunteer, opportunities to donate money, opportunities to work with other ethnic and religious groups, programs for children and adults with special needs, Israel advocacy, transportation, health care, and the list goes on and on.  This is a time of great giving by our community.  Now we need your help to find more people to accept and receive what we have to offer.

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom.
