Shabbat Shalom - October 28, 2011

I love watching commercials and reading advertisements.  The creativity in some of them inspires my own sense of creativity.  Last night at the Gala, I shared one which I think aptly describes what we, as a Federation, do in our community.  The slogan from Patek Philippe watches is:  “You never actually own a Patek Philippe.  You merely look after it for the next generation.”  That is what we do.  None of us owns this community.  We are here to use it to its maximum, take all the benefits and satisfaction from it and then pass it along in even better shape for generations to come.

Thank you to all the donors in the past who have given us what we have today and thank you to all our current donors for establishing a bright future for this amazing Pittsburgh Jewish community.

Shabbat Shalom.

P.S.  We are excited to be working with the Agency for Jewish Learning to bring a year-long lecture series entitled “Conversations for a Jewish Future” to town.  Our first program features world renowned Jewish historian, Jonathan SarnaClick here for details and registration information.  It is exciting to have this caliber of experts joining us in town.
